According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology, the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database publishes a bimonthly list of highly cited researchers based on a ten-year evaluation period. Researchers in each field are assessed according to the number of citations their publications have received in the Web of Science database. Those who rank within the top one percent in terms of citation counts are introduced as Highly Cited Researchers. Accordingly, the primary criterion for inclusion in this list is the total number of citations received by a researcher’s scientific output.

Researchers who have achieved the highest citation counts over the past decade, based on their scholarly and investigative activities, are placed among the world’s top one percent most-cited researchers.

Based on analyses conducted by the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC), a total of 1,142 researchers from Iran have been included in the 2025 list of the world’s top one percent most-cited researchers. This report introduces Iranian highly cited researchers across 22 subject areas in the sciences and social sciences, covering six evaluation periods (from November 2024 to September 2025).

It is noteworthy that two faculty members of North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences have been ranked among the world’s top one percent most-cited researchers (WOS–ESI) by ISC in 2025:
